Will I actually learn a language from one word a day?
One word a day is 365 words a year. The top 1000 most frequent words cover 85% of everyday conversation in most languages. Consistent daily exposure, paired with the example sentences and memory tips we provide, builds genuine vocabulary over time. It's not a replacement for full immersion — but it's the most sustainable habit most people can actually maintain.
Is Motjour really free with no ads?
Yes, completely. We are funded by Pro subscriptions, not advertising. We will never show ads in the app or website, and we will never sell your data to advertisers. This is a business decision, not just a promise — our privacy-first architecture means we don't collect the data needed to run ad targeting in the first place.
How do you choose which word to send each day?
Words are generated by AI (GPT-4o-mini) using frequency-ranked word lists for each language, tuned to your difficulty level. Beginner words come from the top 1000 most common everyday words. All words are checked for cultural appropriateness and accuracy, with human review applied to lower-resource languages.
What data do you collect?
We collect your email address if you sign up for daily delivery, and nothing else. Your word history, streak, and learning progress are stored locally on your device by default. Optional cloud sync (for cross-device access) requires only your email address. We never collect your name, location, or any identifying information beyond your email.
Which languages are currently available?
Currently live: Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Mandarin, Hindi, and Punjabi. Coming very soon: Arabic, Tagalog, Urdu, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, and Persian. We're adding new languages regularly — sign up to be notified when your language launches.
